UBDR Pro leverages UltraBac Software's experience in backup and disaster recovery.
BELLEVUE, WA -- July 17, 2003 UltraBac Software today announced the release of UltraBac Disaster Recovery (UBDR) Pro. UBDR Pro uses snapshot disk imaging technology to backup
Microsoft servers and workstations, enabling the recovery of an unbootable machine in minutes. UBDR Pro will ship immediately.
UBDR Pro is a completely new disaster recovery product developed by UltraBac Software to take advantage of hardware and software advances in the marketplace. The program's design is based on over 20 years of developing and selling backup software, including an original DOS based version of UBDR. The company developed UBDR Pro by listening to disaster recovery users asking for an easier, faster, and more reliable method to boot dead machines than using the aging DOS technology. "The days of an administrator needing two hours to two days to recover a failed server are over - now it's 15 minutes, or even less on a high speed network," said Morgan Edwards, CEO and founder of UltraBac Software.
Using the latest in 32-bit backup and recovery technologies, UBDR Pro is designed to serve as an organization's first line of defense in disaster recovery. After installation, UBDR Pro uses a "lights out" scheduler to backup snapshot images of selected partitions to tape, disk, or any UNC path. A built-in locked file backup agent ensures all files are backed up so they can be restored safely when required. UBDR Pro is optimized to only back up active disk clusters while ignoring non-pertinent page files and hibernation data. The backup image file is compressed on the client side before being transferred to a network storage location, further reducing traffic and saving storage space.
If the server or workstation protected by UBDR Pro fails, it can be restored in a matter of minutes at a rate of up to 800MB/minute on high-speed Gigabit networks. To recover a failed machine, users simply insert and boot from a universal UBDR Pro CD, then initiate a restore of the image from either tape or network UNC path. After the restore, a reboot recovers the machine 100 percent to its last pre-backup state. Users may also invoke the built-in encryption feature to completely secure backup media for online or off-line storage security requirements.
"We know first-hand that savvy corporate IT shoppers have been demanding a fast, easy-to-use, yet cost-effective disaster recovery solution to protect their mission critical systems," said Edwards. "UBDR Pro fills that need with a unique approach utilizing disk imaging technology for rock solid, lightening fast recoveries of failed servers and workstations."
Pricing for the stand-alone version of UBDR Pro is US$695 per server with discounts being offered based on the total number of licenses purchased.
