UltraBac Continues Backup and Disaster Recovery Leadership with New and Enhanced Features.
BELLEVUE, WA -- April 8, 2002 UltraBac Software announces the immediate availability of UltraBac version 7.0. This is a significant release with a totally new architecture leveraging DCOM technology, which allows for a more distributed application and better application manageability, and is the first version to be certified for Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
The design and implementation of the architecture behind this release sets the foundation for significant planned future development. UltraBac Software begins this trend by introducing set-level failover when operating in an active clustered environment to market.
Version 7.0 radically departs from previous UltraBac versions by incorporating Remote / Local Server Agent (RSA) technology. RSA provides client side compression of all data to be backed up, which can significantly reduce network traffic and increase backup throughput. This also allows System State and Active Directory backup where required. Version 7.0 also provides administrators the flexibility of directing backups to remote tape devices, including tape libraries, anywhere on the network.
UltraBac 7.0 now provides more flexibility than any other backup solution by enabling data to be written to any type of local or remote media, including disk, tape, CD-RW and optical. Standard features include media pre-check with email problem notification, media spanning, to either tape or disk (any UNC path), and hardware failover. The hardware failover feature allows a failed backup to be redirected to another device, thus significantly improving backup reliability.
The new Exchange 2000 Agent allows both incremental and full live backups of either local or remote databases. Minimal downtime is guaranteed for mail servers and the technology also ensures database integrity by utilizing Microsoft APIs built for this purpose. The agent also includes single mailbox backup/restore options.
Redesigned, the Oracle Agent performs both "Hot" or "Cold" backups of any Windows based Oracle server on the network. This is accomplished by using Oracle's "Net8" technology, which provides administrators better tools to backup mission critical databases.
The new scheduler offers all the features of 'CRON' and more. Backups can now be defined on a very flexible basis for virtually any schedule and offers special holiday processing. A new wizard guides users step-by-step, making the creation of scheduled backups a simple and straightforward process.
All features of UltraBac can be accessed locally and remotely, including locked files, by simply connecting to any machine in the network directly from the new UltraBac Management Console.
UltraBac's Image Based Disaster Recovery software has also been enhanced to support the backup of all partition types, including 'extended partitions.' A new wizard is available for users to easily create a network boot floppy that will allow recovery of a failed machine by quickly booting from a single floppy (or other media) and recovering a machine's OS partition from either tape or a network UNC path in record time.
